关于读书的英语演讲(通用22篇)
Have you insisted on reading great books
What is a great book? There is no end to the making of books. Nor does there seem to be any end to the making lists of great books. There has always be more books than one could read. You can be happy at the fact that the number of that is relatively small.
However, today, people usually leave it in the library. According to the national reading survey issued by The China Academy of Press and Publication, in 20xx, only 55% Chinese aged between18 and 70 book read books .That is to say, there are more than forty percent of the people seldom read in China.
It is a great challenge to literature. As a educated student, have you insist on reading great books. In order to change the situation ,we must take actions to read great books.
In Adler’s essay of What is A Great Book, he explain why we should read great books. I conclude it as follows.
First, great books are the most readable. They will not let you down ,if you read them well. The have more ideas per page than most books in the their entirety. This is why you can read a great book over and over again and never exhaust it contents.
Second ,great books are always contemporary,in contrast to the books we called contemporary, because they are currently popular ,last for a year or tow,or ten at most. You may probably can not recall the names of many earlier best sellers, and you may probably would not be interest in reading them. But the great are never out modeled by the movement of thought or the shifting winds of opinion .
Third ,great books are the most instructive. This follows the fact that they are original communications. They contain what cannot be found in other books. Whether you ultimately agree or disagree what they say. They are the primary teachers of mankind. They have made basic contribution to human right .
Just giving you the reason is not enough, I will give you some methods to realize you reading dream.
Firstly, you can begin with a interesting novel. You will be attracted by the figures, the plots .Than ,after reading a lot of books ,you may be get into a habit of reading. So,you can contact with some complex books, such as philosophy ,arts and so on. You will be shocked at the new world.
There are countless great books in our library, you must make great advantage of it. Of course ,it is a better choice to buy great books. Collecting books is a enjoyable thing,at least for me. So,reading great books. The new world is coming.

Some people say that money is the best thing in the world. But I considerreading books as the best and the most precious thing one can ever have.
有人说世界上钱最好,我认为读书最好,而且读书是无价宝。

When I'm free or in trouble, I always take out a book and read quietly. In no time, I've put my heart into it so that I'll forget all the troubles. It's in this way that I've formed the habit of reading in any time.
Little boys as I was, I was interest in picture books and storybooks. I was struck by them. No sooner had I entered the middle school than I began to read novel, plays, essays and so on. I found I could get much from them. Little by little I took great interest in literature and last term I won the first prize in the composition contest among middle-school students in Zhe Jiang.
Reading “The Emperor's New Clothes”, I had to let out a burst of laughter over his fool. “The Little Match Girl” couldn't keep me from crying for her misery. “ Robinson Crusoe” took me into a strange world full of danger. And I was also deeply impressed by Helen Keller's patience and perseverance… Besides these, books also tell me other thing -how to be a man and how to tell the difference between right and wrong. In a word, good books can make me know what I didn't before. So I think of a good book as my best friend.
I'll never forget this famous saying,“ Good books are best friends who never turn their backs upon us.”
Have you ever learned English by watching English DVD movies? Is that an effective English learning method for you? Why?
Watching English DVD movies is a very effective method of learning English. I learnt English at college at home. As a natural result of insufficient English speaking environment, my speaking and listening abilities were not developed satisfactorily, although my reading and writing abilities were quite all right. I remember my experience during a summer vacation when I made plans to watch 10 original English movies (I mean those not dubbed.) including the classic Casablanca, Rebecca, A Tale of Two Cities, and Little Women.
Ipersistently carried out my plan and each of the films I watched a dozen times until I could recite most of the dialogues. At the end of that summer vacation, I found I became nearly as fluent as a native English speaker.
The Ways of Reading(读书之法)
We may obtain knowledge by reading. The more books we read, the more we accumulate the knowledge. Is it right? I don’t think so. It’s not wide reading but useful reading that leads to excellence. And only good books can benefit us.
So choosing books is very important for reading. Many students spend a lot of time reading legends and swordsman novels. It’s a waste of time. Some students even read some bad books and it is harmful for them.
So be as careful of the books we read, as of the company we keep, for our habit and character will be as much influenced by the former as by the latter.
Reading is my hobby. While reading, I can get a lot of happiness. When I'mfree, I often read some famous books. Books are my best friends that always keepme a good company. They often give me powers. Through reading, I can enlarge myeyes as well as widen my heart. Through reading, I become more and moreknowledgeable.
My favorite books are Readers and VOA. Readers cover the knowledge ofculture, literature, and history, so I can benefit a lot by reading it. VOA canlet me know the foreign countries better. Thanks to VOA, my oral English isimproving day by day.
This is my good habit that I will keep it forever.
I have read some books this term。 The one which impressed me most is 。 Ibrought this book last term。The book consists of three versions: French, Chineseand English。 I read Chinese version first, which made my second read in Englishmuch easier。 I’m not going to talk about the fairy tale’s writing skills, writing style and what philosophy it contains。 Instead, I will pick out severalsentences which moved me a lot and then show my feeling。
In part 4, there is “Not everyone has had a friend。” And later, in part 17,there’s “It’s also lonely with people。” The two sentences nearly have the samemeaning。 A true friend is of a lifetime。 You may say that: “I have a lot offriends, and we always play together and chat together……” But in fact, friendsare not those whom you always stay with。 Friends can be away from your dailylife, can be out of connection for a long time, but they understand what you doand what you say all the time。 You never feel embarrassed when you stay withyour friends and even say no words。
In part 8, the little prince: “He had taken seriously certaininconsequential remarks and had grown very unhappy。” It’s the same to us。 We aretoo concerned about what others say to do what we really want to。 Nowadays, weseems to care more about other people than ourselves。 When you have bought adress you thought was beautiful, someone says that: “ Oh, it is not suitable foryou。” Guess what, you will not wear the dress any more even if it is new。
In part 18, the flower had seen a caravan passing: “The wind blows themaway。 They have no roots, which hampers them a good deal。” The sentence seemsridiculous, however, makes me think a lot。 For human being, roots mean spiritbelief。 There’s someone saying that: “One nation won’t be destroyed as long asit has belief。” Here, I want to mention Jewry。 No matter how much hardship itwent through, it never give up its struggling。 I have seen a photo: an oldJewish woman holds a book and reads it seriously even though she is in the ruinafter one battle。 I admire this nation, and at the same time, I worry about ournation。 Maybe it has belief which I don’t notice。 It couldn’t be denied that weare being more and more fickle and materialistic。 We are losing our spiritualbelief gradually。 Read more and search for one spiritual holy land。
In part 21, the fox tells the little prince : “It’s the time you spent onyour rose that makes you rose so important。” I love this sentence most。 I thinkof people’s dream。 Perhaps in others’ eyes, our dreams are insignificant。 Theyalways discourage us。 But what we should know is that only if you devote to yourdream, your dream id unique。 You yourself is the master of your dream。
At last, I want to take the author’s word as the ending: All grown-ups werechildren first (But few of them remember it)。 If only we all remember it。
Reading is my hobby. While reading, I can get a lot of happiness. When I'mfree, I often read some famous books. Books are my best friends that always keepme a good company. They often give me powers. Through reading, I can enlarge myeyes as well as widen my heart. Through reading, I become more and moreknowledgeable.
读书是我的爱好。读书时,我可以得到很多的快乐。当我有空时,我经常读一些名著。书是我最好的朋友,它们总是好好陪着我。他们给了我力量。通过阅读,我开阔了视野也让我的心变宽了。通过阅读,我变得越来越知识渊博。
My favorite books are Readers and VOA. Readers cover the knowledge ofculture, literature, and history, so I can benefit a lot by reading it. VOA canlet me know the foreign countries better. Thanks to VOA, my oral English isimproving day by day.
我最喜欢的书是读者和美国之音。读者覆盖了文化,文学,历史知识,所以我可以通过阅读受益匪浅。美国之音,可以让我更好的了解国外。由于美国之音,我的英语口语日益提高了。
This is my good habit that I will keep it forever.
这是我会一生都保持的好习惯。
Reading as a means of obtaining knowledge has a number of advantages overmany other ways. To begin with, it is the most consistent way of gettingknowledge. One can read regularly but few people can travel in the same way.Secondly, reading can ensure a thorough grasp of what you are interested in.This is hardly so when one is listening to the radio or watching TV. Finally, reading is the most flexible of all the ways to obtain knowledge. For example, one can always read for ten minutes before going to bed, but it is not alwayspossible for him to converse with others at such a late hour.
However, there exists one problem about reading. There are all kinds ofBooks in society. Some are good, while others are bad. 'Good books arebeneficial to our .soul while bad ones are harmful to our mind. Therefore, it isof great irnportance for the reader to separate good plants from wild weeds. Weshould read good books and reject harmful ones.
As is well known, books teach us to learn life, truth, science and manyother useful things.
They increase our knowledge, broaden our minds and strengthen ourcharacter. In other words, they are our good teachers and wise friends.
This is the reason why our parents always encourage us to read morebooks.
Reading is a good thing, but we must pay great attention to the choice ofbooks.
It is true that we can derive benefits from good books.
However, bad books will do us more harm than good.
如众所周知,书籍教我们学习人生,真理,科学以及其它许多有用的东西。它们增加我们的知识,扩大我们的心胸并加强我们的品格。换句话说,它们是我们的良师益友。这是为什么我们的父母终是鼓励我们要多读书的理由。
读书是一好事,但我们必须多加注意书的选择。不错,我们能从好书中获得益处。然而,坏书却对我们有害无益。
Knowledge can be acquired from many sources. These include books, teachersand practical experience, and each has its own advantages. The knowledge we gainfrom books and formal education enables us to learn about things that we have noopportunity to experience in daily life. We can study all the places in theworld and learn from people we will never meet in our lifetime, just by readingabout them in books. We can also develop our analytical skills and learn how toview and interpret the world around us in different ways. Furthermore, we canlearn from the past by reading books. In this way, we won't repeat the mistakesof others and can build on their achievements.
Practical experience, on the other hand, can give us more useful knowledge. It is said that one learns best by doing, and I believe that this is true, whether one is successful or not. In fact, I think making mistakes is the bestway to learn. Moreover, if one wants to make new advances, it is necessary toact. Innovations do not come about through reading but through experimentation. Finally, one can apply the skills and insights gained through the study of booksto practical experience, making an already meaningful experience moremeaningful. However, unless it is applied to real experiences, book knowledgeremains theoretical and, in the end, is useless. That is why I believe thatknowledge gained from practical experience is more important than that acquiredfrom books.
it's generally considered that reading do a lot of benefit to ourstudents.not only can it make our after-school life more meaningful and l,but itcan expand our horizons.as a result, with reading more,we would grow into abetter person.
however, in current days, many of us spend most of the leisure time inplaying games or surfing the internet, instead of reading. it's a pity to find itless and less our students are interesting in reading,or have formed a habit ofreading.
so,in order to revive reading, this beneficial activity,we'd better takeaction right now.let's read together, learn together and grow !
Only reading be self-motivated people can learn knowledge, otherwise, willbecome ignorant. I think, we should like to read books, love reading. I rememberthat du may once said a words: "reading make people relaxed and happy."
There is a famous saying: "read volumes, such as writing." Reading has manybenefits, reading can let us growth knowledge; Reading books can broaden ourvision; Reading can let we collected many good words we segment. In reading abook, I deeply feel: books are immense ocean, book is the sky of knowledge, books are endless prairie.
Gorky once said such a words: "books are the ladder of human progress." "Irushed in a book is like a hungry person sees a loaf of bread." Yes, books cancultivate people's sentiment, it can make us relax and breathe the fresh air. Ithink, love is never wrong, books can make us get rid of a lot of bad habits. It's good to read! Reading makes I aspire to be a useful person to society, Iwant to be like the beloved premier zhou "reading for the rise of the Chinese,"we only have small to read and study hard, to master the knowledge, grow up, canwe use our talents to serve human, repay our dear motherland.
Let us act quickly, to book sea roam! Then you will realize theShakespeare's words: "life without books, just like without the sun, wisdomwithout books, like a bird without wings." The refraction of the truth.
People often say that gold and silver are the most valuable things in theworld. But
I don't think so. In my opinion, to read books is more valuable thananything else.

Books tell us what is good and what is evil. And only books can tell thegood from the bad.
Therefore to read more books is the best policy for our young students.

In this summer holidays, I read a book called < Great Expectations>,it was written by the Charles Dickens, one of the most famous English writers。He wrote lots of wonderful novels。 This book is one of his positions。
People always like to pare with their friends。 It is a big foible of allthe people。 If other people have a lot of money, we also want to be rich。 If allthe people around us are poor , we never mind that we are very poor, too。 wewill not ashamed because of our folly。 This is a social problem。
If we never possess anything, we will not mind we lost some thing。 Since wedon’t want to be very rich ,we will not feel despond because poor。
The protagonist of this novel is Pip (Handel)。 His parents died when he wasa baby。 His sister had brought him up ‘by hand’。 His sister married to JoeGargery, the village blacksmith。 They didn’t have much money, and Pip never wentto school to study。 But he was often very happy 。Because all of his friends arelike him。 It isn’t very unfortunate to them, this is their lives。 But by achance, Pip helped a convict; he gave much food to him。 Then he met MissHavisham, a very strange old woman and she was very rich。
Four years later, Miss Havisham wants Pip to be removed from his home andeducated as a gentleman who expects inherit a fortune when he grow up。
After hearing that 。 Pip started to despise his poor friends。 He even feelashamed because he live with the poor man 。 Pip’s ‘great expectations’ destroyedhis life。
This novel told us that we cannot pare with others 。Don’t feel envy at theothers money。 And if one day you be very rich , please don’t despise your poorfriends。

In France, from government officials to writer, professors and ordinarypeople, almost all have love books and the habit of reading. No wonder a Frenchman said: “if the room no book, just like a person who has no soul.” If we cansay so? The French study, not because of the burden and living life pressure bystrong interest, but because the traction, feelings and wonderful USES.
If the journey of mind reading as words, so calmly really is the mostcritical. Whatever you read what, all need to give yourself a few full time, aquiet atmosphere -- writing is individual behavior, reading and why not personalexperience? Reading once in the calm state, is coupled to YuanRen WuHui said,“as the ShangYou ancient how”, that is to say, at this moment, the scholar hasmentally and the ancients photograph communication, phase communication, therebyedify, purification, raised his mind world.
If the essence of easy reading, however, but not everyone can grasp.Recently, read this story and think two quite will tell. LiuChengnorthern-southern dynasties have an academician, he called fromQingDengHuangJuan, studious, do not eat, sleep sitting hand book. Can read backthe I ching, three years out, but they don't know the truth. On the surface,“read three years view the I ching” quiet, even enough, however, aestheticexperience, not sentimental sympathetic chord, natural, how to touch with easyreading above? With is reading, also pleased to recite dun, literature but calmenough. He can still expertly back out of 120 back in a dream of red mansionsMAO dun on novels made great achievements, don't return after its calmlyreading, able to put the book knowledge into spiritual nourishment?
Town calm set, the leisurely, afraid of study is the appeal of the reading.Think that year, SiMaWen male rev roll ”will start with a clean, and thenthrough the amanita cotton-padded mattress sitting, others“ night, ”book“rooting around lonely lamp, some thought ”reading in bed, furnace to smoke, fog, beside the bottles, such ability did edge to“ read flavor. So, I guess, from luxun histories are morality ”-- the word seam in, see this is written with“eating people ”two words, saw thousands of years history only two times, namelythe people want to be a slave and shall not do the era and temporarily steadilyslave era -- this ground-breaking of speech, is YiShi is its eye farce, however, why not general with lu xun's a tea a smoke concomitant, in no hurrydeconstruction, flavorful analyzes relevant?
A man is really to do calmly reading, not treat reading as a soul, withoutgiving a duty entrusted to noble DuanQingChun time thoughts and sincere words, that generally is no good. Because I didn't want to calm people, since there aremany reasons can be, what world is too noisy ah, lively things too much ah,temptation is too strong, etc.? Also no wonder ancient many readers always putthe sit-ins as required by the neo-confucianism, and reassure less-desiredthoughts. Zhu xi warned readers said: “when sit-ins self-restraint, wasexperiencing thinking.” truth scaling Cheng, “each see people sit, and then sighits good study.” Yes, only break, MingJiangLiSuo stand loneliness, stand lure, can easy reading. In this sense, reading this is unconditional, it dependsentirely on self choice. Take the French President francois mitterrand, hispolitics for decades, no matter how busy governmental affairs in two hours everyday, don't read books always night without AnQin. President of a country itsbusy unguided understandably, its extent even can calmly reading, then we?
Famous writer hanging RuZhiJuan book room.will reading “cooking the books”2 words banners. She said: “books, light see is no good, see a story that equalshuluntianzao, should intensive reading. However, return not enough, then cook '.'to' how cooking 'transformational, lucid.”
If the good books to friends, so one would not “cooking the books” person, sitting on a group of talented friends with, besides is among the puppet, anirony and a kind of torture and outside, and can what A book people said:“everyone is a god, and then have also Olympus.” together Say well swum ha!Desire to make “god”, it might as well from “cooking the books” beginning, mightas well learn easy reading!
Perhaps, we end life also can't close to calm state, however, advocatingcalmly quality process, no doubt has started calmly.
one of the most interesting questions about gullivers travels is whetherthe houyhnhnms represent an ideal of rationality or whether on the other handthey are the butt of swift's satire。 in other words, in book iv, is swift pokingfun at the talking horses or does he intend for us to take them seriously as theproper way to act? if we look closely at the way that the houyhnhnms act, we cansee that in fact swift does not take them seriously: he uses them to show thedangers of pride。
first we have to see that swift does not even take gullver seriously。 forinstance, his name sounds much like gullible, which suggests that he willbelieve anything。 also, when he first sees the yahoos and they throw excrementon him, he responds by doing the same in return until they run away。 he says, "imust needs discover some more rational being," even though as a human he isalready the most rational being there is。 this is why swift refers to erasmusdarwins discovery of the origin of the species and the voyage of the beagle-toshow how gulliver knows that people are at the top of the food chain。 but iflemule gulliver is satirized, so are the houyhnhnms, whose voices sound like thecall of castrati。 they walk on two legs instead of four, and seem to be muchlike people。 as gulliver says, "it was with the utmost astonishment that iwitnessed these creatures playing the flute and dancing a vienese waltz。 to mymind, they seemed like the greatest humans ever seen in court, even more d
extrous than the lord edmund burke" 。 as this quote demonstrates, gulliveris terribly impressed, but his admiration for the houyhnhnms is short-livedbecause they are so prideful。 for instance, the leader of the houyhnhnms claimsthat he has read all the works of charles dickens, and that he cansinglehandedly recite the names of all the kings and queens of england up togeorge ii。 swift subtly shows that this houyhnhnms pride is misplaced when, inthe middle of the intellectual petition, he forgets the name of queen elizabethshusband。
swifts satire of the houyhnhnms es out in other ways as well。 one of themost memorable scenes is when the dapple grey mare attempts to woo the horsethat guenivre has brought with him to the island。 first she acts flirtatiously, parading around the bewildered horse。 but when this does not have the desiredeffect, she gets another idea: "as i watched in amazement from my perch in thetop of a tree, the sorrel nag dashed off and returned with a yahoo on her backwho was yet more monstrous than mr。 pope being fitted by a clothier。 she droppedthis creature before my nag as if offering up a sacrifice。 my horse sniffed thecreature and turned away。" it might seem that we should take this sceneseriously as a failed attempt at courtship, and that consequently we should seethe grey mare as an unrequited lover。 but it makes more sense if we see thatswift is being satiric here: it is the female houyhnhnm who makes the move, which would not have happened in eighteenth-century england。 the houyhnhm isb
eing prideful, and it is that pride that makes him unable to impressgullivers horse。 gulliver imagines the horse saying, sblood, the notion ofcreating the bare backed beast with an animal who had held mr。 pope on her backmakes me queezy 。
a final indication that the houyhnmns are not meant to be taken seriouslyoccurs when the leader of the houynhms visits lilliput, where he visits thefrench royal society。 he goes into a room in which a scientist is trying to turnwine into water (itself a prideful act that refers to the marriage at gallilee)。the scientist has been working hard at the experiment for many years withoutsuccess, when the houyhnmn arrives and immediately knows that to do: "thecreature no sooner stepped through the doorway than he struck upon a plan。slurping up all the wine in sight, he quickly made water in a bucket that satnear the door" 。
